I had been to many events were I had seen many DJs
perform for weddings and parties. It looked like a lot of fun and I thought to
myself this could be something exciting for me to get into for enjoyment and to
help make a brides wedding the special day it deserves to be.
I started to research the DJ world on the Internet and found
many good sources. During that research, I made contact with a local DJ
service. I expressed my interest to learn and after meeting with them, became
an assistant. I spent much time practicing microphone technique, mixing music,
and learning the operation of all the equipment. Soon I was out with the main
DJs on live events learning the ropes. After a couple years, when a spot came
open, I was allowed to go out on my own as a main DJ.
It was really enjoyable helping new couples celebrate such a
momentous event and a great learning experience I’ll always be grateful for,
but the downside was I rarely met with the couples before hand. I usually did
not meet them until the day of the Wedding. I knew there was more I could do
for them if I knew them better. So after 5 years working for this local DJ
service, I started Special Occasions Entertainment
in 2006.
I've recently joined the Washington DC Chapter of the American Disc Jockey Association and serve as it's Secretary. My reason for joining was to network with and learn from other DJs so I can provide even better service to my clients.
